The Buteo 'Grebe' floating blind was developed by nature and wildlife photographers: It was extensively tested and adjusted if necessary before being launched on the market.

The floating tent is quite easy to set up:

Pump up both air chambers, then place the mounting plate (or both plates) for your tripod head, place the 2 storage bags, mount the frame in front of the tent and secure the tent canvas to the frame with the buckles and velcro.

Your floating cabin is ready for use!

Birds and mammals are very fearful of humans. By camouflaging yourself with this floating photo tent, you as a photographer can approach wild animals on the surface of the water or on its edges without disturbing or frightening them. Because they no longer see you as human beings, they see no danger and you can often get great photos at very close range.

Prepare well

Make sure you are well prepared before going into the water; Make sure you know the height of the water to be safe. What is your goal: What animals do you want to photograph. Do you have permission to enter the water? Ask the owner. What are the light conditions on the body of water?
Of course, it is wise to first visit the nature area or pond and prepare yourself well so that you can start photographing nature on the water surface very focused and safely.


Enter the water

If possible, find a starting point that is not visible to humans or wildlife, so as not to spook mammals or birds before you begin.

Prepare your hiding place, place your camera at the water's edge (safety first).

Enter the water using vegetation or an inlet. A reed bed or other shoreline vegetation can be very useful for entering the water without being seen.

The camouflage pattern of the tent is our well-known reed pattern, and it is possible to attach additional camouflage elements such as branches, reeds, etc. to it. These can be tied using strings.

  The tent canvas itself is made of a sturdy material (150D polyester) that will last a long time. During the rains, you always stay dry thanks to the 2,500 mm hydrostatic head.

  Imagine you are waiting in your floating tent. Suddenly a grebe, heron or beaver appears as you expected. It's very exciting when you succeed and your target species appears in front of you.

Take photos from the floating hide

When you enter the tent, you will notice that the interior is quite dark due to the black coating. Observation windows with insect net give you full visibility to see what's around you. A snoot/snoot is included, which provides an additional observation window (above the snoot). This snoot will further camouflage your lens and protect it against water drops (same fabric as the tent), and it is the same one used in our Buteo Mark II, Aquila Mark II and Fal series
