Lars Pettersson has developed a whole range of sound analysis software allowing the study of audible and ultrasonic sounds of the animal world. This software can produce coded colour spectrograms in real time while at the same time recording the sequence on the disk. You need a Windows compatible sound card to record and replay the signals. Not only do you find spectrograms. Other types of analysis are included : spectrum density, oscillograms, true time and frequency scaling in signals. User defined spectrogram colour mappings allowing easy use and reading of the graphics. Multiple windows can be displayed at the same time to compare different signals or analysis results.

BATSOUND 3.3 - This BatSound version is designed for the study of ultrasounds emitted by bats essentially, but also by some insects. BatSound analyses sequences obtained by time expansion, using a D980 detector for example. The acquisition menu enables the introduction of the expansion ratio and the figures displayed correspond to the reality. You can filter the signals to eliminate undesired sounds. The spectrum density slides, so you can follow its modifications depending on the time factor. A "virtual detector" function has an educational value by allowing to listen to a slowed down sequence similar to one that could be heard using a heterodyne detector on a chosen frequence. The zero crossing analysis method is not very precise. This function is nevertheless useful to compare your own results with the ones found in scientific literature. Batsound also enables you to file a cry so you can study it with other software.
